Mr. LaPollo's Engineering and Technology Syllabus (ALL GRADES)
• WELCOME! I am excited to be your Engineering and Technology teacher this year. I have very high expectations for all of you and look forward to having a great and productive year!
Course Description:
PROGRAM CONCENTRATION: Engineering & Technology CAREER PATHWAY: Engineering COURSE TITLE: Research, Design, and Project Management Research, Design, and Project
This course provides students with opportunities to work with students from other pathways as a member of a design team. Research
PROGRAM CONCENTRATION: Engineering & Technology COURSE TITLE: Invention and Innovation, Grade 7 COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Invention and Innovation is designed to introduce students to the world of invention and innovation along with the Engineering Design Process. They will examine the impacts of invention and innovation on society and solve problems through research, design, and experimentation in one or more of the areas of Engineering and Technology. Students will work individually and in groups to investigate solutions to technological problems, using research, data collection, design, prototype development, and working models. Invention and Innovation reinforces the areas of math, science, social studies, and language arts through practical application and/or hands on activities. At the end of this course, students will be able to evaluate products and systems that they encounter in their daily lives and choose appropriate technologies to solve a variety of tasks. Students will be able to produce a functional invention/innovation.
PROGRAM CONCENTRATION: Engineering & Technology COURSE TITLE: Exploring Engineering & Technology, Grade 6 COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The goal of this course is to provide all students with an introduction to the principles of Engineering & Technology (hereafter referred to as E&T) and its place in the modern world. This course will also help students to use technological systems effectively in their lives, thus providing a foundation for successfully integrating their own interests with potential careers with the resources of a technological society. Exploring E&T introduces and has the student work through an engineering design process while looking at technological impacts on society. Exploring E&T reinforces the areas of math, science, social studies, and language arts through practical application and / or hands- on activities. Exposure to E&T related careers, work ethics and leadership skills will be important components in this course. At the end of this course, students will understand how engineering & technology impact them and the world around them and careers available to them in the field.
Procedures:
Please read these procedures carefully so that you will know what is expected of you.
Behavior Expectations: Make informed decisions!
A. Be in the classroom PRIOR TO the tardy bell.
B. Come to class PREPARED and ready to learn (pencil sharpened, notebook, etc).

E. DO NOT pack up your things before the class is dismissed, unless advised to do so.
F. Pick up after yourself – and others. Our classroom is a place we all share. If you see trash, pick it up. If something is out of place, return it to the right place.
G. Having a bad day? Any questions or problems can be discussed privately before or after class.
H. PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED.
I. Professional language only.
Responsible Technology Usage Policy:There is no use of private devices in the classroom at anytime and any use of school issued devices must follow district and school policies. Use of School devices in this classroom will be at the discretion of the teacher and only when permitted.
Failure to follow this policy can result in loss of the device and/or disciplinary actions as outlined in the SCCPSS Student Code of Conduct.
Classroom Procedures:
• Attendance: DO NOT BE TARDY! If you are not here, I cannot teach you! We have so much to learn this year that every minute of every class session counts.
• Bathroom Breaks: Handled upon request and must be logged.
• Materials Needed for Class: Pencil, Pen (blue or black ink), composition book, paper, any specific materials previously requested.
Grading Policy:
The Grading policy will be consistent with the expectations set forth by SCCPSS.
